What does a New Zealand visa cost?
Immigration New Zealand publishes a “from” fee on each visa page: currently NZD $17 for the New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) up to NZD $6,450 for the Work to Residence Visa. Pick the visas in your application and how many people are paying, and this adds them up.

Each figure is the “Cost — From” amount on that visa’s own page at immigration.govt.nz, multiplied by the number of people you entered. Nothing else is added.

What this total leaves out
- The International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy, where it applies
- Medical examinations, chest x-rays and police certificates
- Qualification assessments, translations and courier costs
- Anything a licensed immigration adviser or a lawyer charges
It also assumes each person pays the “from” fee. INZ charges more for some applications, and some people are exempt. Confirm on the INZ page before you budget.
How this tool works
Each visa’s fee is the Cost — Fromfigure on that visa’s own page at immigration.govt.nz, read on 2026-09-15. The calculator multiplies that figure by the number of people you enter, and sums the lines. There is no other arithmetic and no estimate of anything.
“From” matters. INZ charges more than the from-figure in some circumstances — for example depending on where you apply from or what is included — and some people pay nothing at all. The total here is a floor, not a quote.
What it does not include
- The International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy, where it applies
- Medical examinations, chest x-rays and police certificates from each country you have lived in
- Qualification assessments, certified translations and courier costs
- Any fee charged by a licensed immigration adviser or a lawyer
To budget for the whole move rather than the application, use the cost of moving calculator.
Questions
How much is a New Zealand visa?
It depends entirely on the visa. Immigration New Zealand's published "from" fees currently run from NZD $17 for the New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) to NZD $6,450 for the Work to Residence Visa. Every figure on this page came from that visa's own INZ page on 2026-09-15.
Does each family member pay the fee?
Some visas let a partner and dependent children be included in one application, and others do not. That is why this tool asks you how many people are paying rather than deciding for you. Check the visa's INZ page for what a single application covers.
Are these fees up to date?
They were read from immigration.govt.nz on 2026-09-15 and the date is shown on the page. INZ changes fees without notice, so treat this as a budgeting figure and confirm the current fee on the INZ page before you pay.
Is the visa fee refunded if the application is declined?
That is a question about INZ's refund policy for your specific application, which is published on immigration.govt.nz. We do not restate it here because it depends on circumstances, and reading circumstances is not something this site does.
